PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sulfonium salt compound which can give high speed gelation thermosetting property to cation polymerization curable compositions and is suitable as a cation polymerization initiator, and to provide a cation polymerization initiator and a thermosetting composition each using the same. SOLUTION: This sulfonium salt compound represented by the general formula (1) (R is an alkanediyl; R is H or methyl; R1and R2are each an alkyl or the like), and the cation polymerization initiator and the thermosetting composition each using the same.
