PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a versatile cover removing device which enables the sure removal of a cover member and its safe maintenance. SOLUTION: This cover removing device has a cover removing unit 10 for removing a synthetic resin cover member 4 externally fitted on a mouth 3a from the container body 3 of a used beverage container 2 and a moving up/down means for moving up and down the unit 20 relative to the beverage container 2. The unit 10 includes a control member 31 for controlling the upward movement of the container body 3 being engaged with the shoulder part 3b of the container body 3, a holding means 33 with a plurality of holding nails 32 engaging with the lower end of the lid member 4, an opening/closing means 34 for opening/closing the nails 32 of the means 33 and a cover removing means 35 for moving the holding means 33 up and down relative to the member 31.
