PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compact lens barrel that excels in space efficiency in a stored state. SOLUTION: In a photographing state of the lens barrel, a plurality of optical elements composing a photographic optical system are positioned in a straight line on the same photographic optical axis. In a stored state, which involves no photographing, at least two retracting optical elements of the plurality of optical elements are retracted to positions radially in different directions eccentric from the optical axis of the other optical elements and the two retracting optical elements are moved one behind the other so as to be adjacent to each other within the same plane perpendicular to the photographic optical axis.
