PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an existing gate remodeling method which aims at effective alleviation of load on the side of a civil engineering structure. SOLUTION: According to the method, a door body 5 at an existing gate 3 arranged in a confluent portion from a channel 2, is changed to a structure having a communication opening 5a and a communication guide cylinder 10 for communicating with a river 1 side. Then a guide rail 13 for guiding elevation/lowering of a submersible pump 14 is erected on a side surface of the channel 2. When the confluent portion is in a closed position by the door body 5, the submersible pump 14 is operated to lower along the guide rail 13 by a chain block 21, and when the submersible pump 14 assumes a self-supported position on a bottom surface 2b of the channel 2, by stand sections 17, the submersible pump 14 is connected to the communication guide cylinder 10 of the door body 5.
