PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle occupant protection apparatus capable of appropriately protecting an occupant at the time of collision. SOLUTION: An occupant protection apparatus 10 comprises deceleration control means 12, 20 for controlling the deceleration of a proper vehicle, running state detecting means 16, 18 for detecting the running state of the driver's vehicle, other vehicle information detecting means 14 for detecting other vehicle information, and a collision location estimating means 26 for estimating a collision location of the other vehicle in relation to the driver's vehicle in response to the traveling state of the driver's vehicle and the other vehicle.
