In a powder coating process to apply a coating to an item made of graphite/carbon-fiber-carbon, one or preferably two precursor coatings are applied by diffusion and chemical reaction and bond with each other and the surface. Diffusion and chemical reaction are simultaneous. The chemical reaction happens in statu nascendi with one of the first reactive by-products. The diffusion is regulated by temperature control. The chemical reaction produces a succession of intermingled layers or a homogenous coating. The first coating agent is e.g. titanium boride, zircon boride, lanthan hexaboride, or chrome boride. The second coating agent is boron nitride, silicon nitride, titanium nitride or aluminum nitride. The third coating agent is boron carbide, silicon carbide, or tungsten carbide. The fourth coating agent is nickel sulfide. The fifth coating agent is molybdenum silicide and titanium silicide. The sixth coating agent is zircon oxide, yttrium oxide or aluminum oxide. The final coating agent is a metal e.g. aluminum, zircon, chrome or copper. Further claimed are a commensurate coating and a commensurate graphite/CFC product.
|
