PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waterwheel drive unit which is used even in a river, etc., where the flow speed is so low that the waterwheel hardly rotates, by improving the flow speed of the water which influences the rotation of the waterwheel to improve the rotation of the waterwheel. SOLUTION: The waterwheel 3 of a vertical axis to make a vertical water shaft 1 almost vertical is provided near a wall surface S1 of a water passage S. A water straightening vane 5 in a submerged weir shape is arranged to intercept the upper portion of the waterwheel 3 from the water surface S1 upstream of the waterwheel 3, and provided to form a passage 4 of a predetermined height between the water bottoms.
