PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for favorably separating and discharging staple fibers from a fiber layer on a cylinder. SOLUTION: The device in a flat card or the like, has the following construction and mechanism: A covering part is situated against a card clothing of a high speed cylinder, and when seen in the rotating direction of the cylinder, an air outlet opening and an air inlet opening are positioned in succession, and fiber flow and airflow are passed through the openings. According to the cylinder (4), a space (a) of the covering part (25III) upstream of an exhaust air opening (29) and a space downstream thereof differ from each other, and the space (a) is smaller than the space (b) of the covering part (27) between the exhaust air opening (29) and feed air opening (31). Air for separating staple fibers from fiber flow (35) flows along the surface of the cylinder and against the rotating direction of the cylinder and is discharged together with staple fibers via the exhaust air opening (29).
