Two integrating light pipes (40,46) are optically coupled to a focusing element (44) to produce light with uniform irradiance and intensity profiles (E4J4). The first ILP stage (40) is used to receive spatially non-uniform light (28) from a single or multi-color source (24,26) and produce a uniform irradiance distribution (E2) while leaving the intensity distribution (I2) substantially unaltered. The focusing optical element (44) swaps the irradiance and intensity distributions received from the output of the first ILP and feeds it to a second DLP stage (46) which, in turn, completes the spatial homogenization of the light by transforming the non¬ uniform irradiance (E3) received from the focusing element into an output (E4) of uniform irradiance. As a result of this sequence of transformations, a homogeneous multi-color light output (56), both in intensity and irradiance, is produced. |
