<p>This invention provides a method for inhibiting oligosaccharide biosynthesis in vivo and in vitro comprising the steps of administering at least one monosaccharide derivative, wherein the hydroxyl group which is the glycosyl acceptor (i.e. the active hydroxyl group) of said at least one monosaccharide is substituted by a suitable group or an isostere. This invention further provides a method of treatment of diseases or illnesses associated with oligosaccharide biosynthesis in the human or animal body. Additionally, the present invention provides pharmaceutical compositions comprising monosaccharide derivatives. Furthermore, this invention provides novel monosaccharide derivatives and processes for synthesising the monosaccharide derivatives.</p> |
