PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardware authentication device for facilitating registration work while guaranteeing registration of hardware allowed to connect to a network. SOLUTION: In a web client device 20, an agent program 21 for requesting access to a web server device 10 from an authentication switch device 30 interposed with the web server device 10 is installed. In receipt of the request from a function by the agent program 21, the authentication switch device 30 acquires a MAC address from the function to perform hardware authentication according to the acquired MAC address. If the hardware authentication is not successful, the authentication switch device 30 acquires user information and identification information of a user from the function to perform authentication based on these pieces of information. If the second authentication is successful, the authentication switch device 30 registers the previously acquired MAC address and uses the MAC address in the subsequent hardware authentication.
