PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication apparatus which is high in isolation and small in size compatibly with a simple structure and is adaptable to a surface optical element. SOLUTION: The optical communication apparatus includes: an optical waveguide 1 that has a core 2 and a clad 3 covering the core and that has 45°slopes 6a, 6b formed each in the same direction at both ends in the longitudinal direction of the core; a wavelength selective filter 4 arranged on one 45°slope 6a of the optical waveguide; and a light emitting element 66 and a light receiving element 67 whose respective directions of a normal coincide with each other in the light emitting face and the light receiving face respectively. For example, the light receiving element 67 is optically coupled with the optical waveguide 1 through the one 45°slope 6a of the optical waveguide and the wavelength selective filter 4, while the light emitting element 66 is optically coupled with the optical waveguide 1 through the other 45°slope 6b of the optical waveguide and the clad 3.
