PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus with which required image data is collected easily. SOLUTION: The ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus is provided with: an ultrasonic probe 1 which transmits and receives ultrasonic waves to and from a patient P; a transmission and reception part 2 which performs ultrasonic scanning to the patient P by driving the ultrasonic probe 1; an image data generation part 42 which generates the image data based on a reception signal from the transmission and reception part 2; a memory selector 52 which writes the image data from the image data generation part 42 into a memory 51 to retain it; and an operation part 8 which performs freeze OFF operation of the image data. Based on input information of retention freeze OFF operation from the operation part 8, the image data generated by the image data generation part 42 is retained from an uncollected area in which the image data is not retained of the memory 51. Then, based on input information of erasure freeze OFF operation from the operation part 8, the newest image data retained previously in the memory 51 is erased and thereafter, the image data generated by the image data generation part 42 is retained from an area in which the newest image data has been retained.
