PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil level detection device for an internal combustion engine, which appropriately detects an oil level by preventing a float from sticking to a ceiling or a bottom of a housing due to viscosity of oil, and is used in a machine tool which causes large vibration, by preventing components of the machine tool from being damaged. SOLUTION: The oil level detection device for an internal combustion engine comprises: a housing 45 permitting entry therein of oil 12; a float 51 provided within the housing 45 and vertically movable with the oil 12 entering the housing 45; and a reed switch 46 for performing switching operation in response to the vertical movement of the float 51. Protrusions (on an upper side of the float) 54 etc. are provided on an upper surface 51a of the float 51, for preventing the float 51 from sticking to a ceiling (cover) 61 of the housing 45 due to viscosity of the oil 12. Protrusions (on a bottom side of the housing) 49 etc. are provided on a bottom 67 of the housing 45, for preventing the float 51 from sticking to the bottom 67 of the housing 45 due to viscosity of the oil 12.
