PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water proof connector in which the total connector fitting force is reduced and assembling workability is improved. SOLUTION: A housing seal 16 of the water proof connector 20 is arranged at the outer peripheral face of an inner cylinder part 10 positioned between a retainer 19 and the inner cylinder part 10 extending to the intermediate part of a fitting hole 15 so that the peak of seal fitting force needed for the tip end of a hood part 7 to go over the housing seal 16 will be ended before the peak of a terminal fitting force needed for a male terminal metal fitting 4 to be fitted to a female metal fitting 6 occurs. A locking part 17 which is formed extending from the base end side to the tip side of the fitting hole 15 and which locks the end face of the housing seal 16 is installed at the outer peripheral face of the inner cylinder part 10.
