PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine controller realizing quick and smooth sulfa purge while restricting an increase in combustion sounds and exhaust PM. SOLUTION: If an LNC temperature T<SB>LNC</SB>is lowered below a first temperature determination level T1 during the control of combustion sound restriction, the determination of Step S5 becomes No notwithstanding that combustion sounds exceed a first combustion sound determination value NL1, and so the stage moves to Step S6 to control temperature rise. This inhibits the increase of PM contents of exhaust gas in the state of low exhaust temperatures (i.e., the state where no PM burns in DPF42), and prevents the clogging, etc. of DPF42. If the LNC temperature T<SB>LNC</SB>exceeded the first temperature determination value T1 after the control of combustion sound restriction interrupted, the determination of Step S5 also becomes Yes, the control of combustion sound restriction is executed again if combustion sounds increase.
