PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate a structure, which is not so often present actually, in the process. SOLUTION: At least two statistically unrelated image data sets are wavelet-transformed, and wavelet coefficients of four groups are computed at each level. Then, the correlation between at least two statistically unrelated image data sets is determined by using the mutual correlation functions of the corresponding wavelet coefficients of at least two image data sets. When the image data sets are inversely transformed from at least one wavelet data set, the wavelet coefficient which is not strongly correlated is not weighted heavier than the strongly correlated wavelet coefficient. The evaluation of correlation and weighting of wavelet coefficients in the inverse transformation of the wavelet coefficients in a mixed group are made different from the evaluation of correlation and weighting of wavelet coefficients in the inverse transformation of the wavelet coefficients in an HP group.
