PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flake-like interference color pigment and a coating material suitable for forming a coating film having excellent appearance and corrosion resistance, and a method and apparatus for efficiently manufacturing the flake-like interference color pigment at a low cost. SOLUTION: A base film to be stripped, which is soluble in a solvent, is previously formed on a spherical or polyhedral base material and after that, the base material is charged into a mesh-like vessel provided in a vacuum vessel and having a rotation revolution function. A laminated film comprising a metallic film and an oxide film is formed on the base material while rotating and revolving the mesh-like vessel and the formed laminated film is stripped off from the base material using the solvent and is pulverized to have a prescribed size.
