[Also in Division G3] A gyrometer 1 for measurement of angular velocity about an axis x-x, Fig. 1, comprises means 12, 13 to establish radial fluid flow 2 into an annular conduit 15, two nozzles 3, 4, Fig. 2, rotated at the velocity to be measured and inclined at an angle in opposite directions relatively to two respective radii R3, R4 of the radial flow, and means for measuring the difference between the rates of flow into the two nozzles. The gyrometer 1 is fixedly mounted in an air, sea or space craft to be stabilized and the flow in the conduit 15 which does not pass into the nozzles 3, 4 is collected by an outlet 16 for recirculation to the inlet 12. Flow from nozzles is fed to the inlet branches 6, 7 of a fluid amplifier 8 to distribute fluid from a jet 9 between the outlets 10, 11 in the same ratio as the inputs from the nozzles. In a modified construction, fluid is fed into the conduit 15 through a rotor provided with radial or helical vanes and connected to a flywheel outside the gyrometer casing.</p> |
