The device has a planetary gear train (11), which is inserted between a vehicle-motor and a fan (3), and connected with the motor and the fan. The planetary gear train is steplessly switchable between operating conditions. A temperature sensor acts on an adjusting device, which is coupled with the gear train, for operating the gear train in order to adjust the operating conditions of the planetary gear train. The fan is arranged behind a cooling grid such that the grid sucks ambient air which flows in a direction of an engine.
