An aircraft launching and arresting tape consists of load bearing stuffer warp yarns 8 surrounded by weft 2 interwoven with face warp yarns 12 and binder warp yarns 9, 91. To provide greater resistance to abrasion at the edges, the warp yarns 121 are the same size as the yarns 12 but consist of a smaller number of coarser filaments and have more twist. Extra stuffer warp yarns 71, which are surplus to the strength requirements of the tape, are included in the edges to protect the load bearing yarns 8 from damage when the edge becomes frayed. The tape is shrunk to tighten the weave.
