1,136,781. Aircraft launching tape. E. W. BLISS CO. 17 May, 1966 [3 June, 1965], No. 21904/66. Heading D1K. An aircraft launching and arresting tape consists of load bearing stuffer warp yarns 8 surrounded by weft 2 interwoven with face warp yarns 12 and binder warp yarns 9, 9<SP>1</SP>. To provide greater resistance to abrasion at the edges, the warp yarns 12<SP>1</SP> are the same size as the yarns 12 but consist of a smaller number of coarser filaments and have more twist. Extra stuffer warp yarns 7<SP>1</SP>, which are surplus to the strength requirements of the tape, are included in the edges to protect the load bearing yarns 8 from damage when the edge becomes frayed. The tape is shrunk to tighten the weave. |
