The system has at least one electrical machine, a converter and two connecting lines between the inverter and a battery a leakage current protection circuit with a switch for interrupting the two connecting lines and evaluation logic for opening the switch under certain conditions. The opening conditions are voltages across resistances (16,19) between first and second lines (13) and earth and both lines connecting corresponding connections of the battery (15) and the inverter and/or generator (10). An independent claim is also included for a leakage current protection circuit.
