A heating and cooling device for supplying conditioned air to a mattress comprises an inlet fan 301 supplying air to a first passage 401, an exhaust fan 306 supplying air to a second passage 400, and at least one heat exchanger disposed and exchanging heat between the first 401 and second 400 passages. The heat exchanger may comprise of a plurality of Peltier heat pump devices 303 arranged in series and parallel and have heat sinks 402, 403 in the first passages 401 and heat sinks 304, 305 in the second passage 400. A further ceramic heater 310 may be disposed in the first passage 401. The device may operate in three modes, heating, cooling or maintaining the air passing through the device at ambient temperature, i.e. no heating or cooling. Heated or cooled air may be supplied to a mattress cover or to air channels within a mattress via an air outlet 309. Air drawn through the second passage 400 prevents the Peltier devices 303 from overheating. An air filter (2012, fig 20) that may be disposable and replaceable may be used for filtering the incoming conditioned air. |
