A method for production of lycopene having strong antioxidant effects is provided to improve production yield of lycopene in Escherichia coli by providing a vector system containing an inducible promoter and an inducible synthetic operon. The method for mass production of lycopene by Escherichia coli comprises the steps of: preparing a recombinant expression vector containing an inducible promoter for E. coli, and a geranyl geranyl pyrophosphate synthase(crtE) gene, a phytoene desaturase(crtI) gene and a phytoene synthase(crtB) gene which are controlled by the inducible promoter, wherein the recombinant expression vector is pIB-EIB and the inducible promoter is araBAD or a recombinant expression vector, which is pTB-EIBrop, further containing a repressor(rop) gene of the promoter, wherein the recombinant expression vector is operated to be copied with a low copy number; transforming E. coli with the recombinant expression vector pIB-EIB or pIB-EIBrop; culturing the transformed E. coli(KCTC 10885BP or KCTC 10886BP) in a medium containing inducers; and separating lycopene produced from the cultured medium.
