A sensing arrangement for sensing a body part in a vehicle opening, such as an open powered window of a vehicle (fig 1), comprises a flexible sealing member (fig 2) with two separate electric conductors 66, 72 that form a variable capacitor connected to an oscillator 106 (fig 5 also). The conductors are arranged so that oscillator 106 signal produces a field (E fig 2) in the region of the opening which is effected by the dielectric presence of a body part changing the capacitance between the conductors that is sensed by detection circuitry (300 fig 4). The oscillator 106 is connected to a power source via the conductors also, thus allowing the continuity of the conductors o be tested. Part of all of the oscillator may be formed within part of the flexible sealing member, preferably by overmolding. The conductors may also function as a contact switch. Sensing of a body part may stop or reverse a motor of the powered window. |
