COMPUTER SYSTEM HAVING SERIAL AND PARALLEL INTERFACES

A computer system including serial/parallel interfaces is provided to perform normal booting by automatically searching and setting connection information of storage devices even though a user incorrectly sets the connection information of a parallel and/or serial -ATA(Advanced Technology Attachment) storage device in a BIOS(Basic Input/Output System) setup menu. The parallel/serial-ATA storage device(116,118) respectively includes the parallel/serial pin representing the parallel/serial storage device connection information. A connector(114) is connected to the parallel/serial-ATA storage device. A GPIO(General Purpose Input/Output) register(132) stores the parallel/serial device connection information when the parallel and/or serial storage device is connected to the connector. While performing a POST(Power-On Self-Test) according to a BIOS code stored in a BIOS ROM(120), a processor(102) stores the parallel/serial device connection information stored in the register to a CMOS RAM(136) when the user device information stored in the CMOS RAM is not identical with the parallel/serial storage device information stored in the register.
