Novel nitrofuran derivatives of Formula I in which R 1 , R 2 and R 3 , which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy or sulphonic acid group, at least one of R 1 , R 2 and R 3 representing a hydroxy group, are prepared by reacting 5-morpholinomethyl - 3 - benzylideneamino - 2 - oxazolidone in a non-aqueous solvent at elevated temperature with a sulphonic acid of Formula II and treating the product obtained with 5-nitrofurfural. Pharmaceutical compositions having antimicrobial and anti-haemorrhagic activity, for oral or parenteral administration, comprise a compound of Formula I together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. The compositions may be used in human or veterinary medicine. |
