1,179,510. Coating wood materials by extrusion. SCHOCK & CO. G.m.b.H. 11 Dec., 1967 [10 Dec., 1966], No. 56146/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B2] A process for coating wood or a material containing a substantial amount of wood comprises applying a hot molten adhesive to the wood and then extruding a layer of synthetic plastics material on the wood. The hot molten adhesive can be applied by extrusion or by means of a heated roller. The two coatings may be applied directly in succession using a single extrusion head which is connected to two extrusion presses. An adhesive specified is a solvent-free mixture of one third ethylenevinyl acetate copolymer and two thirds coumarone-indene resin. The synthetic plastics material may be any desired thermoplastic resin such as a vinyl or acrylic resin. The adhesive mixture may contain colophony or brittle resins. An apparatus described comprises a first extrusion press 10 for the hot adhesive and a second extrusion press 20 for the synthetic material, both feeding an electrically heated head 40. The coating materials are fed into ducts 42 and 44 and through slots 48 and 52 to a press-board strip 30.
|
