A PHARMACEUTICAL PREPARATION AND COMBINATION THERAPY FOR TREATING NEURONAL DEATH OR NEUROLOGICAL DYSFUNCTION

A pharmaceutical preparation and combination therapy for treating neuronal cell death or neurological dysfunction is provided to inhibit both apoptosis and necrosis of neuronal cells by using synergism of an apoptosis inhibitor and lithium. The pharmaceutical preparation and combination therapy for treating neuronal cell death or neurological dysfunction comprises: an apoptosis inhibitor selected from benzylaminosalicylic acid derivatives represented by the formula(1), wherein X is CO, SO2 or (CH2)n in which n is an integer from 1 to 5, R1 is hydrogen, alkyl or alkanoyl, R2 is hydrogen or alkyl, R3 is hydrogen or acetyl, and R4 is phenyl optionally substituted by nitro, halogen, haloalkyl and C1-C5 alkoxy; and tetrafluorobenzyl derivatives represented by the formula(2), wherein R1, R2 and R3 are each independently hydrogen or halogen, R4 is hydroxy, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, halogen-substituted alkoxy, alkanoyloxy or nitro, and R5 is carboxylic acid, ester having C1-C4 alkyl group, carboxyamide, sulfonic acid, halogen or nitro, and lithium or its pharmaceutically acceptable salts.
