A digital to analog converter for driving a flat display panel and a converting method thereof are provided to reduce the size of the digital to analog converter by using a digital/timing generator using clock signals corresponding to the number of bits of a digital signal, a reset signal, and a ramp signal. A digital to analog converter includes a digital/timing generator. The digital/timing generator includes plural signal selectors(61~66), a reverse signal output unit(67), a latch memory(68), and a ramp signal output switching unit(N1). The signal selectors output clock signals(Clocks) based on received digital signals. The reverse signal output unit reverses a stored value in the latch memory during a high level period in which overall outputs of the signal selectors are in high levels. The latch memory latches a signal based on an output signal from the reverse signal output unit and maintains the latched signal until a reset signal is received. The ramp signal output switching unit outputs a ramp signal based on the latched signal.
