A method and a device for focusing an image are provided to move a focus lens largely from a starting position to a focus narrow bandwidth in an advancing position direction, and move a focus lens finely in the focus narrow bandwidth, thereby preventing problems due to local maxima and realizing precise and fast focusing of an image. An image focusing device includes a focus lens moving part(10) for moving a focus lens by a uniform interval when a starting position is determined and moving the focusing lens from the starting position in an advancing position direction divisionally twice by dividing a determined width according to a control signal. A focus value reading part(12) reads out focus values of the focus lens. A starting position determining part(14) determines a position of the focus lens representing the largest one among the focus values as the starting position. An advancing position determining part(16) determines and outputs the advancing position by differences between the focus values before and after the starting position and the largest focus value. A control signal generating part(18) outputs the control signal according to changes between the read focus values.
