A medium and large scale battery module with a vertical lamination structure is provide to form the compact lamination structure stably, to prevent swelling of a battery cell caused by gas generation and to maintain inter-electrode space of the battery cell, thereby protecting reduction in performance of the cell, by comprising a base plate with vertically arranged unit modules, a pair of side plates and a supporter to fix top of the side plates. A battery module has unit modules in a vertical lamination structure, in which two or more battery cells are built. The battery module comprises: a base plate(120) with the unit modules; a pair of side plates(130) closely adhered to outer sides of outermost unit modules while being fixed to the base plate at bottom of the side plates; and a housing(140) with a supporting part to fix top of the side plates, which covers the unit modules. The base plate is fabricated by bending at least one mounting parts upward to support the unit modules. At least one of the side plates is fixed to the base plate through bolt/nut coupling mode as the unit modules are laminated on the corresponding side plate.
