A motion compensating apparatus and method in a mobile terminal are provided to optimize motion vector detection and memory control to compensate a motion in real time. A motion compensating apparatus in a mobile terminal includes an image sensor(12), a motion detector(13-1), and a motion compensator(13-2). The image sensor converts an input image into 1-bit luminance data. The motion detector matches a current frame and a reference frame of the 1-bit luminance data block by block to calculate a local motion vector. The motion compensator extracts a final motion vector for the image through the local motion vector to compensate a motion.
