<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for providing an optimal amount of compression to tissues for an optimal formation of staples and sutures. <P>SOLUTION: The device for determining an optimal amount of tissue compression prior to the insertion of a surgical element into the tissues. The device has a measuring device configured to detect a tissue parameter upon the compression of the tissue. The measuring device has an indicator indicating the event of a threshold value to the surgeon, when the measuring device reaches the threshold value after the tissue is compressed for a prescribed period of time, and the surgical element is inserted into the compressed tissue. The threshold value is indicative of the surgical element being properly formed in the tissue in an indicated time period. When the compression is lifted after the threshold value, the tissue with the surgical element returns to a substantially uncompressed state without necrosis. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
