PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provider a label paper printer which keeps printing on standby in a label paper-extractable state, and a control method for the label paper printer. SOLUTION: This label paper printer comprises: a label paper printing means 22 for applying printing to the label paper 12h which is fed from a label paper bundle 12; and a label paper feeding means 23 for performing the idle feeding operation of feeding the label paper 12h to an extractable position from a peeling position, the feeding-back operation of feeding the label paper 12h to a printable receding position from the extractable position, and the refeeding operation of feeding the label paper 12h to the extractable position from the receding position. With the label paper 12h fed to the extractable position, a control means 105 makes the idle feeding operation performed when the "absence" of the label paper 12h is detected on the assumption that printing instructions are not provided, makes the feeding-back and refeeding operations performed when printing instructions are provided on the assumption that the "presence" of the label paper 12h is detected, and makes the means 22 driven for printing in synchronization with either of the feeding-back and refeeding operations.
