PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems in a conventional method and device for spreading a spread material onto the sea bottom wherein the spread material is diffused to impede accurate construction in a place where the water depth is deep or a stream is fast because the spread material is spread from the water surface by a method of putting the spread material in a filling container placed on a pontoon and provided with a blind-like opening/closing mechanism at the bottom face and then opening the bottom face to drop the spread material in plane shape onto the sea bottom, while accurate construction is attained because the filling container is located underwater by a method of filling the spread material in the filling container disposed near the sea bottom, by slurry transportation from the pontoon and then opening the bottom face to drop the spread material in plane shape onto the sea bottom, but construction is impeded if slurry transportation/filling is difficult because filling of the spread material is carried out by slurry transportation. SOLUTION: In the method and device for spreading the spread material onto the sea bottom, the spread material 4 is filled in the spread material filling container 9 of hollow box shape disposed in a vertically erected state in the position of the pontoon, and the spread material filling container 9 is lowered close to the sea bottom. The lowered spread material filling container is placed almost horizontally, and the bottom face of the almost horizontally placed spread material filling container is opened to spread the spread material onto the sea bottom.
