PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light oil composition which can reduce nitrogen oxides and particulates in exhaust gases and give excellent fuel costs. SOLUTION: This light oil composition contains, as a main component, a hydrocarbon oil having a sulfur content of≤50 ppm, a cetane number of≥50, density of≥0.82 g/cm<SP>3</SP>at 15°C, and a total aromatic content of≤40 mass% which is lower than a value of (density [g/cm<SP>3</SP>]×450-350).
