PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device control method which permits the improvement of a printing speed while maintaining a high degree of printing accuracy. SOLUTION: The recording device control method prints an image on papers P by a recording head 44 by transferring the papers P with a subsequent paper P superposed on the margin Y1 of the rear end side of a preceding paper P and corrects printing timing by the recording head 44 in accordance with a change in the clearance between the papers P and the recording head 44 which is due to superposition during printing on the subsequent paper P in a superposition area of the papers P in performing printing on the papers P in a printer 1 which transfers the papers P as sheetlike mediums and prints images on the papers P by the recording head 44 shifting in the direction intersecting a transfer direction at right angles.
