PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating sludge which enables an extension of the service life of an ultrasonic transducer and an improvement of the efficiency to irradiate a suspended inorganic matter in the sludge with an ultrasonic wave by avoiding the contact of the ultrasonic transducer with the suspended inorganic matter in the sludge when the sludge is subjected to an ultrasonic treatment. SOLUTION: The contact of the suspended inorganic matter with the ultrasonic transducer 33 is avoided by disposing the ultrasonic transducer 33 at a side of a tubular ultrasonic treating tank 32 on a position biasedly closer to an end of the tank 32 and by arranging the tubular ultrasonic treating tank 32 aslant so that the ultrasonic transducer would face upside.
