PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high quality information recording even when fingerprints and dust are stuck. SOLUTION: When recording information to a multilayer optical recording medium 1 comprising information recording layers 20, 22, 24 and 26, information is recorded by irradiating a first information recording layer with a recording laser beam and defect information is collected on the multilayer optical recording medium 1 by detecting return light of the recording laser beam.
