A vertical electrostatic precipitator has pipetype collecting electrodes 5, (Fig. 1), with internal round or star shaped cross-section discharge electrodes 12. A discharge electrode has a lower third provided with points 14, Fig. 2, a middle third with lugs 15 or spikes 6, Fig. 3 (not shown), and a smooth upper third 12'. Alternating the middle third is the star cross-section rod 12" Fig. 4, the upper third being sheathed by a pipe 18. The electrode thus has strong, moderate and zero discharging characteristics from the gas inlet end 1 towards the gas outlet end 7, and this is stated to increase the W value significantly. |
