<p>Glass comprising at least one material, as a heat source material for absorbing and converting a laser beam to heat, selected from Ni, Fe, V, Cu, Cr, and Mn and added to a glass matrix comprising at least one glass forming oxide selected from SiO<SUB>2</SUB>, GeO<SUB>2</SUB>, B<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, P<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>5</SUB>, TeO<SUB>2</SUB>, Ga<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, V<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>5</SUB>, MoO<SUB>3</SUB>, and WO<SUB>3</SUB> and at least one material selected from alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, rare earth elements, and transition elements is provided. A laser beam with a wavelength capable of absorbing the heat source material is applied to the surface and/or inside of the glass to convert the exposed part to a single crystal or a group of crystal grains free from the heat source material and comprising components contained in the glass matrix and thus to form a pattern. Thus, an optical component having excellent secondary optical nonlinear properties is obtained.</p> |
