The indicator device indicates the presence of a cartridge in the barrel of a pistol with a lock. An indicator element (120) is reciprocally fitted in the lock. It has a surface (121) for contact with part of the cartridge. There is a pin (122) pre-stressed in the direction of the barrel. The indicator element adopts a different position when a cartridge is in the barrel from that which it adopts when there is no cartridge in the barrel.
