The engine has a common rail (2) powered by a hydraulic power unit (7). A part e.g. exhaust valve or injecting device, is operated by hydraulic actuators. The hydraulic actuators are attached at the common rail. The hydraulic power unit is driven by a drive unit that is operable with an exhaust gas in an upper output region, where the hydraulic power unit composes a pump and is assigned to the common rail. The hydraulic power unit is drivably connected with a shaft of a turbocharger (6) during application of the turbocharger for compressing load air.
