Provided are a two-port type isolator and a communication device, the sizes of which can be reduced. The two-port type isolator comprises a center electrode assembly (30) including a ferrite (31) having a first center electrode (35) and a second center electrode (36) formed therein and electrically insulated from each other, and a permanent magnet. The ferrite (31) is formed into a box shape including a first principal plane (31a) and a second principal plane (31b) parallel to each other, and these first principal plane (31a) and second principal plane (31b) are arranged in the vertical direction over a circuit substrate (20). Moreover, the permanent magnet is so arranged on the circuit substrate (20) as to apply a magnetic field substantially vertically to the principal planes (31a) and (31b) of the ferrite (31). The first center electrode (35) and the second center electrode (36) are individually wound in the winding shape, and the center electrode (36) is so wound that its winding axis may be substantially parallel to the circuit substrate (20).
