<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a number of graphite films having sufficient thermal conductivity and excellent in surface hardness, appearance and surface smoothness, and also manufacture a thick graphite film excellent in various characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: This method for manufacturing the graphite film comprises a step of heat treating a raw material film comprising a polymer film and/or carbonized film at a temperature of ≥2,000°C and bringing the film under the heat treatment into contact with a substance containing a metal.
