<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element capable of displaying with high quality. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element comprises a light source; a first liquid crystal cell having first and second substrates, where first and second display units are defined and a first liquid crystal layer arranged between the first and second substrate; a first polarizer on which light transmitted through the first liquid crystal cell is incident; and a second liquid crystal cell, having third and fourth substrates where a first area on which light transmitted through the first display unit is incident and a second area on which light transmitted through the second display unit is incident are defined; a second liquid crystal layer which is arranged between the third and fourth substrates and allows light projected from one of the first area and second area to be transmitted through the first polarizer and disallows light projected from the other to be transmitted through the first polarizer, when the light transmitted through the first polarizer travels forward and backward in the second liquid crystal cell and impinges on the first polarizer again; and a reflector which is arranged on the fourth substrate on the side of the second liquid crystal layer or on the opposite side from the second liquid crystal layer and reflects the light transmitted through the second liquid crystal layer, to make it emit from the light-source side. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
