PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographic apparatus devised to transmit image data to an external apparatus in infrared communication, while suppressing power consumption. SOLUTION: The photographic apparatus is provided with a distance measurement unit 501 for measuring the distance between a printer 100 as an external apparatus that serves as the opposite-side apparatus of infrared communication and a digital camera 1 as the photographic apparatus; and a communication unit 502 for adjusting the intensity of infrared rays, depending on the distance acquired by the distance measurement unit 501 and performing infrared communication between the printer 100 as the external apparatus.
