PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a glass spacer in which a high precision glass spacer having no cracks is mass-produced with a minimum necessary cooling length of time. SOLUTION: This is a manufacturing method of a glass spacer S which separates both flat plates of a flat type display that is constituted of a substrate on which a plurality of electron emitting element parts are formed and a surface plate which generates visible light by incidence of electrons emitted by the electron emitting element parts. When wire drawing is made by heating and melting the tip part of a glass base material M of nearly similar shape as the cross-section of the glass spacer S in a wire drawing furnace 2, the cooling rate of the glass spacer S is made 110°C/sec or less.
