PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid epoxy resin having high refractive index, having low viscosity and suitable for optical use. SOLUTION: The epoxy resin is obtained by glycidylating an alcohol substance represented by formula (1) [wherein a plurality of A are each -(CH(P))<SB>2</SB>- group (P is a hydrogen atom or methyl, but two P are simultaneously not methyl groups) and A may each be mutually same or different; a plurality of R are each a 1-6C alkyl group and R may each be same or different; m is an integer of 0-3; n is a recurring number and n is an integer of 0-5].
